Dave, what can I say. That Shaft gallery! Fantastic, man I can smell it - Welly, Friday night, Shaft! that stale smoke machine mixed with sweat and sweet ganja, every night the walls dripped with funk. Those pictures sent my pretty stunted memory aching to kick in, faces I haven't seen for time. Truly truly amazing days, man I grew up in that club. 3 was the magic number! Arms & Legs, JP & Catman! Cords & Adidas Samba's, credit card pipes & red stripe. We was all blessed to be part of something very special.
Amen

Thank you so much for your support . . . thank you for you being a real War music fan.

Hi Mhogo,
How are you?, Been downloading your mixes for a while now, my kind of music!  Really enjoyed The Funky Wormhole at The Big Chill by the way!  Anyway, we run a night at Sumo in Leicester, pop in and say hello sometime.  Nice one Darran

Hey Mhogo, Thanks for the shout, dude. I appreciate the love, and am glad that you dig the track. We'll keep you updated on all the upcoming projects. I also checked out your site, and things in Leicester look pretty lively. Hopefully we can make it over there one day.

First of all, I'd like to give a big shout out to my homeboy Catman Dave, a.k.a. DJ Mhogo, a.k.a. Goddamn That DJ Saved My Day! I can listen best at work on our high speed and it really gets me through the boring day . . . I was gonna tell you about all these groovy tunes that I'd stumbled upon myself, but you've obviously already heard, mixed, etc. Amazing. Can you send me cd's of the songs from the website?

NOTHING was or will be as COOL as SHAFT at the Welly on Fridays.  Halcyon days

Shaft - the best night out ever; we danced and danced and danced.  Nothing else has ever come close.  A Shaft revival!?!  Please!

I lived in France for a bit before going to uni in Hull in 1993.  The Welly was the best thing and Friday nights were amazing.  It was music for people who were in love with dancing, tunes like How Gee get to your soul and you can feel it and see it in the souls of others.  That’s’ what set Shaft apart from any other night out dancing…I’m waiting for its rebirth

 Becky Small

I'm close to tears. I thought I was one of the only people who realised how special it was and how I lived for friday nights (i'd literally be planning my outfit for the next friday night on the saturday morning!) it's a bit of a pity that my life used to be so run by music and dancing and now i hardly ever go out (and if i do it's normally shite)

 Leanne Linacre

Love the mixes on this website, Dave, all up to your usual impecable standards.

This week ( May 2005 ), whilst phoning home for some family comfort , my brother Matthew told me that he had just had a 'Shaft Moment' . A sampled tune on the radio had taken him straight back to the smoke infested, strobe wobbling , sweat drenched dancefloor of the Welly Club . In my mind the experience of Shaft has never finally decayed to silence either. It sits it a big beautiful bubble - beckoning one more set to make the sweat drip from the ceiling , and the Unity to vibrate the air. Big smiles and love to the Shaft crew. It was our life , and that is our good fortune .
